Spring.

Balance.

With Spring on the way, we're dusting off our favorite jackets, some kicks that just couldn't brave the harshness of winter and some of our best loved toys that we just didn't play with during the cold months.
Many of us have been braving the elements only when necessary, content to connect with our friends and associates via the web, over the phone, or by scheduling quality time inside someone's warm home- asking each other "your cocoon or mine?".
Bundled in leathers, wools, heavy cottons and silks- maybe some blends- anything to stay warm and maybe, possibly give the sometimes dreary days a flood of your personal style and eccentricity by wearing a bright colored set of accessories, a pretty handmade hat, that scarf that your grandmother used to wear when she was your age.
Meals are designed to warm and nourish during these past months, with the holidays certainly setting a tone.
We've been serving up hearty meals to guests of chili made with beans, spinach and turkey meat, accompanied by tortilla chips and homemade salsa, sour cream and shredded cheese.
Cheese fondues with thick bread chunks and broccoli.
Big sandwiches with salmon and roasted red peppers.
Lots of cooked grains with sauteed or sauced vegetables and occasional meats.
Oatmeal, porridge, grits, farina..
Salty, gingers, cinnamons & peppery hotness.
Gaining all that good weight to keep us warm on frigid nights...

And soon- time to throw off those extra pounds.
Less clothing will give the elements greater access to our human forms...
Air will caress legs, rain will drizzle on arms, necks, cheeks, forheads will be sun kissed once more.
The sweeter, more watery, sour tastes will keep us balanced.
Bitter green salads reemerge, and our menus will get lighter.
As more fruits come into season, our local farmers will be ready to stock us with their harvests that will help us keep our systems ticking and tocking as the sun does us justice- more melanin for all!
Check the chart below showing Traditional Chinese Medicine's take on keeping the body just right for the weather...
